How to Prepare
EVERY TREATMENT IS PERSONALIZED — AND SO IS YOUR PREPARATION
While every session is tailored to your needs, a few simple recommendations can help you get the most from your visit. After booking, you'll also receive treatment-specific instructions based on the services you're receiving.
BEFORE EVERY SESSION
Applies to all treatments

STAY
HYDRATED
Hydration supports healthy tissue function and can help you get the most out of your treatment. Try to drink water throughout the day before your session.
WHY IT MATTERS
Hydrated tissue generally responds better to treatment and supports healthy circulation and recovery.

EAT
NORMALLY
Avoid being overly hungry, fasting, or having a very large meal right before your session. A light meal or snack beforehand is usually ideal.
WHY IT MATTERS
Balanced blood sugar and not being overly full or hungry make for a more comfortable experience.

COMPLETE YOUR PAPERWORK
Please complete all intake forms at least 48 hours before your first appointment so I have adequate time to review your health history and personalize your treatment plan.
WHY IT MATTERS
This allows for a thorough review and helps us make the most of our time together.

MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS
Silence phones, televisions, and other distractions whenever possible. Creating a calm environment allows you to relax and helps you make the most of your session.
WHY IT MATTERS
Relaxation activates the parasympathetic nervous system and supports better outcomes.

PREPARE YOUR SPACE
A treatment table requires more space than many people expect. Please choose a quiet area with enough open space for the table and for me to move comfortably and freely around it. Having adequate room allows me to use proper body mechanics and provide the highest quality treatment possible.
WHY IT MATTERS
Adequate space allows for optimal technique and the best possible results.

PREPARE YOUR PETS
Pets are absolutely part of the family, but they can unintentionally disrupt treatment. If your pet tends to bark, jump, or become anxious around visitors, please have them secured before the session begins. For everyone's safety, pets are not permitted on the treatment table. This is especially important during acupuncture treatments. Certified service animals are always welcome to remain in the room, provided they remain under their handler's control.
WHY IT MATTERS
A calm environment supports relaxation and ensures everyone's safety and comfort.
TREATMENT-SPECIFIC PREPARATION
-
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily adjusted above the elbows and knees. Depending on your treatment plan, access to the abdomen, back, shoulders, or other areas may also be helpful. A gown and appropriate draping will be provided whenever necessary to ensure your comfort and privacy.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise immediately before your appointment, if possible. Allowing your breathing, heart rate, and body temperature time to return to normal helps provide a clearer picture of how you are feeling that day.
-
Take medications as prescribed. Do not stop or change a medication for your appointment unless directed by the healthcare provider who prescribed it. Please have an up-to-date list of your medications and supplements available.
-
Share any relevant health changes or precautions. Let us know if you are pregnant or may be pregnant; take blood-thinning medication; have a bleeding disorder, pacemaker or implanted medical device; have a history of fainting with needles; or have recently experienced surgery, infection, fever, significant skin irritation, or a new medical diagnosis.
-
Leave your tongue in its natural state. Normal toothbrushing is perfectly fine, but please avoid brushing or scraping your tongue before your appointment. If possible, also avoid foods or beverages that temporarily stain the tongue immediately beforehand.
-
Bring your questions and priorities. If you have several concerns you would like addressed, consider which one or two are most important to you right now. Your treatment will be explained before we begin, and you are always encouraged to ask questions or share concerns.
ACUPUNCTURE

-
Plan to undress for your treatment. MLD is performed directly on the skin and often requires access to the main lymphatic pathways and lymph node groups. Most patients undress fully, although loose, nonrestrictive underwear may be worn if preferred. Towels cover the breasts, and professional draping protects other sensitive areas. You may decline treatment of any area at any time.
-
Arrive with clean, dry skin, if possible. Avoid heavy lotions, body oils, or self-tanning products immediately beforehand, as these can interfere with the light skin-stretching techniques used during treatment.
-
Follow your medical provider’s instructions. If you are receiving post-surgical care, obtain any required clearance and continue following all guidance regarding compression, activity, wound care, drains, and recovery precautions.
-
Bring relevant recovery items. Have any prescribed compression garments, abdominal boards, foams, braces, or other supports available. Please also share your procedure date, areas treated, and instructions from your surgical team.
-
Share any health changes or precautions. Let us know about pregnancy, recent surgery, active cancer treatment, heart or kidney conditions, blood clots, current infection, unexplained swelling, or other significant health changes.
-
Contact your medical provider about concerning symptoms first. Fever, increasing redness or warmth, incision drainage, sudden or one-sided swelling, or calf pain require medical guidance before MLD. Seek immediate medical care for chest pain or shortness of breath.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (MLD)
-
Wear or have comfortable clothing available. Depending on the areas treated, you may remain clothed or partially undress. Some techniques involve direct skin contact. Professional draping is always used, and you may decline treatment of any area at any time.
-
Arrive with clean, dry skin, if possible. Avoid heavy lotions, body oils, or topical pain-relief products beforehand, particularly over areas being treated. This allows for easier assessment and hands-on treatment.
-
Give us the full picture. Share areas of pain, tightness, restricted movement, weakness, or changes in function. Recent injuries, repetitive activities, training demands, work habits, and previous treatments can provide helpful context.
-
Bring relevant information or supports. Have imaging reports, rehabilitation instructions, braces, orthotics, or recommendations from another healthcare provider available when relevant, particularly if treatment is part of a broader recovery plan.
-
Share any health changes or precautions. Let us know about pregnancy, recent surgery or injury, fractures, osteoporosis, blood clots, current infection, unexplained swelling, neurological symptoms, or other significant health changes.
-
Contact your medical provider about concerning symptoms first. New or severe pain, significant swelling, unexplained weakness, loss of sensation, or symptoms following an injury may require medical evaluation before bodywork. Seek immediate care for chest pain, shortness of breath, or sudden neurological changes.
CLINICAL
BODYWORK

-
Arrive with clean skin, if possible. Avoid heavy makeup, sunscreen, facial oils, or other leave-on products immediately beforehand. Your skin can be cleansed when necessary, but arriving with a clean face allows more time for treatment.
-
Keep your skincare gentle that day. Avoid facial scrubs, exfoliating acids, retinoids, at-home peels, or other products that leave your skin irritated or unusually sensitive before your appointment.
-
Share any recent cosmetic treatments. Let us know if you have recently received Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling, laser treatments, chemical peels, facial surgery, PRP, or other cosmetic procedures. Please include the treatment performed, date, and areas treated.
-
Tell us about skin changes or sensitivities. Active cold sores, infection, open wounds, sunburn, significant irritation, new rashes, or unexpected swelling may require modifying or postponing treatment. Please contact us beforehand if you are unsure.
-
Take medications as prescribed. Do not stop or change any medication for your appointment. Please disclose blood-thinning medications, bleeding or clotting conditions, pregnancy, allergies, and any tendency to bruise or react to skincare products.
-
Plan ahead for important events. Temporary redness or mild tenderness can occur, and occasional bruising is possible with any needling treatment. If this is your first session, consider allowing several days before a wedding, photography session, or other special occasion.
FACIAL
ACUPUNCTURE

-
Arrive with clean, product-free skin. Avoid makeup, sunscreen, facial oils, or other leave-on products immediately beforehand. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and prepared before treatment.
-
Pause potentially irritating skincare products. Unless otherwise directed, avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, at-home peels, and other sensitizing products for several days before your appointment. Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, or other hair-removal methods that may irritate the treatment area during this time.
-
Avoid excessive sun exposure. Do not intentionally tan before your appointment, and let us know if you develop a sunburn or significant skin irritation. Microneedling cannot be performed safely over sunburned, inflamed, or damaged skin.
-
Share any recent cosmetic procedures. Let us know about Botox, fillers, laser treatments, chemical peels, facial surgery, microneedling, or other procedures, including the treatment date and areas treated. Adequate healing time may be required before your appointment.
-
Disclose relevant medications and health history. Tell us about blood-thinning medications, isotretinoin use, pregnancy or breastfeeding, bleeding or clotting conditions, impaired healing, keloid scarring, immune conditions, and allergies to lidocaine or other topical anesthetics. Do not stop prescribed medication unless directed by your medical provider.
-
Contact us about skin changes before your visit. Active cold sores, infection, open wounds, acne flare-ups, rashes, or unexpected swelling may require postponing treatment. Because temporary redness, sensitivity, and light flaking are possible, allow several days before an important event.
MICRONEEDLING
